Introduction
We would like to introduce you the French political scientist prof. Philippe Bonditti, an associate professor at European School of Political and Social Sciences, Université catholique de Lille and an associate fellow at the Laboratoire des théories du politique (LabTop-CreSPpa-CNRS-Paris 8) in Paris.
Drawing on Foucault’s conception of discourse and problematization, prof. Philippe Bonditti will approach ‘terrorism’ as a discourse on violence, showing especially 1) how it developed throughout the second half of the 20th century and imposed a new categorization of violence, and 2) the ways in which the new problematisation of violence that results from this process can be related to the larger mutation of “political modernity”. In this purpose, he will, first, explain his conceptions of “discourse”, “problematization” and “political modernity” and then present on the gradual emergence of the “terrorism-discourse” and antiterrorism policies and apparatuses.
