Ośrodek Kultury Francuskiej i Studiów Frankofońskich Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego zaprasza na seminarium badawcze, które odbędzie się w środę 25 listopada 2020 o godzinie 17.00 on-line.
Seminarium francuskich nauk społecznych i humanistycznych jest częścią programu edukacyjnego projektu „Dimension Francophone” w ramach Sojuszu 4EU+.

Teodoro Patera (PIASt PAN) wygłosi referat:
„Kształtowanie siebie: etyka estetyczna we wczesnej nowoczesności”
Michel Foucault, czerpiąc z filozofii stoickiej, stworzył pojęcie „estetyki egzystencji” i zredefiniował koncepcję introspekcji. Utrzymuje on, że w twórczości epistolarnej stoików introspekcja i pismo, nie będąc w służbie odczytania ukrytej istoty rzeczy, pełnią funkcję „etopoetycką”: mają na celu przemianę charakteru poprzez stopniowe konstytuowanie się podmiotu jako obecności wobec spojrzenia innego. Twórczość epistolarna stoików ukazuje solidarność między etyką a estetyką; relacja z samym sobą, leżąca u podstaw każdej etyki, jest aktem twórczym. Ponadto, nie będąc aktem solipsystycznym, ma on miejsce w sieci intersubiektywnej: tworzenie siebie istnieje tylko poprzez tworzenie relacji.
Foucault uważa Michela de Montaigne (1533-1592) za nowoczesnego epigona tej tendencji późnej starożytności, ale nie poświęca mu zbyt wiele uwagi. Tymczasem, wyrażanie siebie pismem, które odnajdujemy w „Próbach”, odzwierciedla główne założenia estetyki egzystencji Foucault. U Montaigne’a, analiza introspektywna jest działaniem podmiotu, który stawia sobie za cel wykrystalizować się wobec spojrzenia czytelnika i stworzyć wraz z nim nową jakość „my”, alternatywną wobec grup kształtowanych przez normy społeczne. Wspólna lektura Montaigne’a i Foucault pozwala zastanowić się nad dialektyką powrotu do siebie i relacji z innym, która jest podstawą idei egzystencji rozumianej jako kształtowanie siebie.

Teodoro Patera graduated in Philology and Literary Criticism from the University of Rome Tor Vergata (Italy) and obtained a Certificate of Specialization in Medieval Studies at the University of Geneva (Switzerland). He completed his Ph.D. in Literary Studies at the University of Macerata (Italy). He conducted research at the universities of Grenoble Alpes and Poitiers (France). In the academic year 2014-2015, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Geneva as part of a research grant from the Zeno Karl Schindler Stiftung. Between 2016 and 2019, he worked as Research Associate at the Seminar für romanische Philologie of the University of Göttingen as part of a project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Between 2019 and 2020, he taught French literature at the same institute, where he was also activities coordinator for the Montaigne Forum. In the academic year 2020-2021, he is serving as a Research Fellow at the Polish Institute of Advanced Studies in Warsaw (Poland). He has been awarded the 2015 Doctoral Thesis Prize by EUM – Macerata University Press. He is also a member of the editorial team of the open access journal Polythesis. His research interests are mainly oriented towards the French literature of the Middle Ages and early modern period, focusing in particular on the figurations of the self in narrative practice, the notion of desire, and the representation of gender identities. Part of his work is dedicated to the theoretical definition of literary anthropology. He is the author of Parler dulcement d’amour, Identità, desiderio, racconto nei testi antico francesi della leggenda di Tristano (EUM, 2018) and co-editor of Mollesses renaissantes: défaillances et assouplissement du masculin (Droz, 2020, forthcoming). His essays have appeared in Modern Language Notes, Zeitschrift für französische Sprache und Literatur, Studi francesi, Mediaevistik, and L’immagine riflessa, among other publications.
