Is European strategic autonomy an utopia? Reflexions on UE’s defence and security policy in the contexte of the war in Ukraine
This intervention will reflect upon the way the EU has tried to develop a strategic autonomy for several decades by investigating the case of European defence policy. The topic will also be reflectied upoj ion the light of the current war in Ukraine, and its consequences for the EU’s strategic thinking and action in a more an more multiploar world.
Delphine Deschaux-Dutard is an associate professor in political science at the University Grenoble Alpes (UGA), as well as a research fellow at CESICE. She is also the vice-dean for international relations at the Law Faculty. She holds a PhD from Sciences Po Grenoble (2008) on the role of French and German diplomatic and military actors in the development of European defence policy since the 1990s. She has published several articles, books and chapters on security and defence issues and has presented more than 60 papers in scientific conferences in France and worldwide.
