« Borders and Migrations : the case of the Middle East since 2011 »

 

Summary: The paper intends to delve into the side effects the uprising in Syria and then the war created at the scale of the Mashreq region either from the point of view of the States and for the refugees themselves. More precisely, it tries to assess how the border management and border regimes changed throughout the period 2011-2019 in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan and Iraq as main state receivers of the refugees fleeing the war in Syria, as well as the internal debates about the return of refugees, more particularly in Lebanon since 2017. In order to decipher these changes I will try read them through the lens of the concepts of bordering/ordering/othering that allow a larger understanding of sociopolitical processes related to borders and migration issues.
